Why Meditation and Yoga?
Yoga and meditation teach us how to become more present and embodied, and to find freedom from the tensions and distractions of living in our fast-paced (and often traumatizing) world. They can also remind us that we are deeply valuable, worthy, and capable of much more than what our minds say!
Modern science has a lot to say about the benefits meditation, mindfulness, and yoga. It is good for our health in very concrete, measurable ways. Meditation and yoga have been shown to reduce blood pressure, stroke risk, heart disease, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). They have also been shown to elevate mood, increase memory, improve learning, and aid concentration. And these are just beginning to scratch the surface of what yoga can offer.
Yoga is an ancient science of the mind which offers all of us the potential to grow in ways we might never have imagined. Yoga and meditation go hand in hand with counseling to support you in healing physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
In my own life, I have found yoga to be uniquely suited to the job of making friends with myself. And, yes, I just called it a job! Learning to love your body and yourself can be a lot of work, but yoga and meditation can make this work meaningful, relaxing, fun – even blissful! If you are still wondering if yoga is for you, I have one thing to say: Yoga is amazing.
