We all have within us this divinity which is radiating and shining like a sun, and we just have to turn our attention in that direction every day with a sense of surrender, a sense of love, a sense of devotion, and the clouds will part and we will bask in this radiant, joyous bliss–it’s called ananda, and it exists for everyone” – Shri Shambhavananda
Yoga and meditation teach us to become more present and embodied, and to find freedom from the tensions and distractions of living in our fast-paced world. They can also remind us that we are deeply valuable, worthy, and capable of much more than what our minds say!
Is Yoga for You?
Modern science has a lot to say about meditation, mindfulness, and yoga. It is good for our health in very concrete, measurable ways. Meditation and yoga have been shown to reduce blood pressure, stroke risk, heart disease, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). They have also been shown to elevate mood, increase memory, improve learning, and aid concentration. And these are just beginning to scratch the surface of what yoga can offer. Yoga is an ancient science of the mind which offers all of us the potential to grow in ways we might never have imagined. Yoga and meditation go hand in hand with counseling to support you in healing physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Yoga and meditation are particularly helpful for women (and men!) struggling with body image or a disordered relationship with food. In my own life, I have found yoga to be uniquely suited to the job of making friends with my body. And, yes, I just called it a job! Learning to love your body and yourself can be a lot of work, but yoga and meditation can make this work meaningful, relaxing, fun – even blissful! If you are still wondering if yoga is for you, I have one thing to say: Yoga is amazing. Give me a call and let’s see what yoga and meditation can do for you!
